Nike's Doernbecher Freestyle Program, created in 2003 as a charitable program to raise cash for the Doernbecher Children's Hospital, pairs hospital patients with Nike designers to produce unique designs for some of Nike's most famous silhouettes for a limited annual release. The Jordan 7 received the Doernbecher treatment with design assistance from 10-year-old Damien Phillips as part of the 13th collection of 2016. The Bulls-inspired colorway, inspired by his love of the Chicago Bulls and playing guitar, features a mixture of red and black textured leather with a black midsole and translucent outsole. The shoe also features unique design information such as a guitar pick lace stay, guitar-inspired heel pull, and the designer Damien's own cartoon illustration on the sole.
